Walk into any gym right now. Open any fitness or wellness community. Everyone's talking about creatine.

But here's what's interesting: most people aren't talking about it because of bigger muscles.

They're talking about it because of what it does for your brain.

Creatine isn't some complex compound you need to understand at a molecular level. But understanding the basics changes how you think about it.

Your muscles run on energy. That energy comes from ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Think of ATP as your cellular currency. Your cells use ATP to do work.

The problem: your body can only store enough ATP for about 10-15 seconds of intense effort.

After that, you need to regenerate it.

Type: Everything discussed here is based on creatine monohydrate. The most researched, most effective, and cheapest option. All the fancy versions (creatine ethyl ester, buffered creatine, etc.) don't outperform monohydrate. This is what the science is built on. If it ain't mono, it's a no no.

Timing: Doesn't really matter. Morning, evening, with food, without food. Consistency is what matters.

Duration: You need 2-4 weeks of consistent use before you notice effects. It's not like caffeine where you feel it immediately. Creatine works by building up in your system.

Water: Creatine pulls water into your cells, so you need adequate hydration for it to work effectively. I used to hate drinking water. But when I started creatine, I thought, why waste money if I'm not following the guidelines? So I forced myself to drink three liters a day. Best habit I picked up, honestly. And it's necessary for creatine to work.

Who benefits most: Anyone wanting better cognition, better mood, better energy, and better recovery. Athletes benefit. But so do desk workers, students, anyone with a brain that needs to function optimally.
